| Description: |
Optical
engineering is the study and practice of using, detecting, transmitting
and manipulating light to engineer products and systems. This text
examines three main sub-topics. The first includes basic optical
principles, including: geometrical optics, optical aberration,
diffraction theory, optical interference, and crystal optics. Materials
included in these first six chapters address the most basic and
important optics principles with which optical engineers must be
familiar. The second sub-topic, presented in chapters seven and eight,
introduce light source, detectors, radiometry, photometry and
colorimetry. The third sub-topic addresses the trend of optical
technologies, including holography storage, fibre communication,
optical testing and optical display. State-of-the-art optical devices
are also presented in this final section.
